Hello! I am aiming to publish my book around August 15th. Here I give a brief overview what I am seeking to achieve with it.
The book will accomplish three goals. The first is to show how and why libertarianism and a Marxist-influenced faction on the left are philosophically misguided. It carefully explains how libertarianism is contrary to the intent of the American founders and results in letting the naturally powerful few attain excessive political control. Libertarians have successfully persuaded many voters that economic freedom is a sacrosanct moral value. They have naively assumed that we are all equal in our ability to attain great wealth. Their success in influencing policy for several decades now has resulted in more power and wealth flowing to the oligarchic class. In a similarly disconnected fashion, the Marxian inspiredMarxian-inspired faction on the left It has pursued policies that alienate many voters. This has led to increasing number of voters turning to candidates who act against their interests. The philosophically flawed ideas of the far left and right are here rigorously explained with the goal of removing their mystique and exposing them for what they are: bad ideas that when put into practice lead to socially damaging outcomes.
The second goal is to explain the purpose of the American system. Over three decades, I have developed a political model that shows that our system assumes the existence of four key types of players. Based on the concept of “structured incentives” from economic theory and psychology, the model is relatively easy to understand and apply practically. It explains the particular incentive of each of the four types of players, two of them beneficial to the common good and two harmful. Once understood, policy makers and activists can determine how to frame laws and public policies that harness these naturally occurring incentives to channel motivations away from harmful behaviors and toward outcomes beneficial to all citizens.
The third goal flows from the first two, to explain the philosophical ideas that resulted in the American system of “checks and balances.” Exploring key ideas in the political thought of Plato, Aristotle, Locke and Rousseau, the book goes into depth to explore how they resulted in a system that benefits the average citizens over generations, not just the powerful few. It is because this system has benefited the many and not just the few that it can rightly be judged as the most successful system in human history.
